When in Manhattan take the famous Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn and head down to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. This place is a great way to try and get some peace in the city that never sleeps. Sure, you want to get away from the honking of cabs and police sirens ringing through the air, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is the exactly what you need. To set the tone of these great gardens visitors can be treated to the beauty of the hundreds of cherry trees and Japanese gardens and ponds. The best time to come around is in May when the gardens hold the massive Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival), when the trees turn pink and the festival hosts Japanese events such as taiko drumming and staged tales of samurai lore. You can enjoy it by sitting under one of these pink canopies with a few beers and enjoy some interesting Japanese snacks while listening to the performers.

It is a peaceful way to spend an afternoon and it is one of the most underrated outdoor attractions of the city. You could catch a wedding which is part of the norm within the setting of these gardens or just admire the beauty of the flora and fauna of the area. A favourite area since it opened in 1910 the whole place has just a great serene feel to it with cool, trendy cafes and the greenhouse if you are cold, is a great place to warm up. It is a definite winner all round.

Some say it is Brooklyns answer to Hollywoods Walk of Fame because it holds its very own celebrity piece with names like Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Barbara Streisand and Mae West all inscribed on stepping stones. While you are there take a look at the Brooklyn Museum of Art where the peace of the gardens spill over into this artistic institution or head North West to Brooklyn Music venues and enjoy your literature in a cool, cosy atmosphere with good drinks.

Have yourself a peaceful Weekend break to this great city and rest in comfort in great hotels such as The Carlton , Soho Grand Hotel and Club Quarters Wall Street . .
