Originally the park was used for military drills during the American Civil War and the great man George Washington and his troops crossed the area in the battle for Long Island way back in 1776. At opposite ends of the year the park is at its finest. During the summer, visitors can make the most of the hot temperatures, lazing in the sun by day and by night the park host a free open air cinema under the stars. For all you loving couples on Romantic breaks, this is definitely an ideal choice of location just dont forget to bring a blanket. During the winter, the park hosts a free ice skating rink and a raft of great Christmas stalls dotted all around.

The park is small, has a lot of character and is centrally located so you can always make it a part of your tour of the city. With this great location you can visit the Carnegie Hall , Brooklyn , the Chrysler Building , Grand Central Terminal and Brooklyn Book Fest all close by.
