Need to rest your feet for just a second, after walking all over
Brooklyn Book Fest
? Get yourself to Bryant Park, it is gorgeous, fun and it will be hard to leave once you settle down. It is a privately managed public park, so it is well kept and beautiful and you can get to it between fifth and sixth avenues and between 40th and 42nd streets in midtown Manhattan. Not only is it one of the best parks in the city but it also has the
New York Public Library
, which is worth a definite visit if you like books and a lot of books.
Originally the park was used for military drills during the American Civil War and the great man George Washington and his troops crossed the area in the battle for Long Island way back in 1776. Do not worry though; you will not be seeing any military action there these days only chilled out New Yorkers enjoying lunch or free spirits just roaming through a great park. The park is that popular that the daily attendance has proven it is the most densely populated parks in the world. So I guess the secret got out then?
For the kids, there was a custom built carousel put in by the park authority and there is not a shortage of places to grab a snack with sandwich kiosks located all around. At opposite ends of the year the park is at its finest. During the summer, visitors can make the most of the hot temperatures, lazing in the sun by day and by night the park host a free open air cinema under the stars. For all you loving couples on
Romantic
breaks, this is definitely an ideal choice of location just dont forget to bring a blanket. During the winter, the park hosts a free ice skating rink and a raft of great Christmas stalls dotted all around.
The park is small, has a lot of character and is centrally located so you can always make it a part of your tour of the city. With this great location you can visit the
