Nearly always overshadowed by its famous neighbour, the
Brooklyn Bridge
, Manhattan Bridge does not share the same limelight as its borough connecting counterpart but it definitely does not lack in quality and aesthetic value. On the Manhattan side of the bridge the masterful colonnade and beautiful arch welcome travellers before they make their trek across to Brooklyn. A favourite for walkers, joggers and cyclists, the Manhattan Bridge enjoys some tremendous vies of the Manhattan skyline as well as the harbour. It is a truly refreshing experience to make your way across the bridge at from either end and witness New York City at its finest, especially at dusk.
Opening on the last day of 1909, Manhattan Bridge has been recognised easily in TV shows or movies, notably in I Am Legend, where both this bridge and
Brooklyn Bridge
had been destroyed to stop the exodus of a quarantined Manhattan. Not to fear though, there will be no sign of that happening on your stay in New York unless this mythical zombie apocalypse takes effect, which we doubt. This bridge is so New York and beholds a lot of character across its steely blue structure and great pillars. It is enjoyable, fun and best of all its free. Visitors should give it a go just to achieve the authenticity of New York City.
