What was once the busiest port in America, the South Street Seaport is now open for tourists and visitors as a tourism centre and mall located at the southern tip of Manhattan. Boasting the best views of the harbour looking south at the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Governors Island , the seaport is a great place to come and enjoy shopping and fine eating at the tasty food courts. The seaport is a designated historic district and holds some of the oldest architecture in Manhattan. The area also includes a former fish market, the Titanic Memorial Lighthouse and an extensive view of Brooklyn Bridge .

Like many other great landmarks in New York City, this area was used in the movie I Am Legend, and also appeared in a Nirvana music video. Keeping with the music side of things, the seaport also hosts the Seaport Music Festival each year and brings many enthusiastic music lovers to this great area. Along with the great views on offer, you will see water taxis, old ships and helicopters taking off all around you which sets the scene for great activity in the area. There are many places to shop and great malls to take a look through. During the holiday period with smaller crowds and great selections of things to do, it is arguably one of the best places to visit to get into the holiday spirit and they have the best Santa in the city and a singing Christmas tree. Of course you want to see that.

So head down and enjoy the best the South Street Seaport has on offer, it is mountains of fun and the views are exceptional. The area is also close to many other great attractions of south Manhattan such as the great Brooklyn Bridge , famous Wall Street , the Smithsonian and Ground Zero .

There is so much to do on this side of the city and some great hotels to enjoy your Midweek or Weekend break in hotels like Millenium Hilton , Club Quarters Wall Street and The Carlton . .
